On April 20, 2021, the first SEM655D wheel loaders were delivered to our customer for the Sichuan-Tibet Railway project. The Sichuan-Tibet Railway will connect Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, and Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the second railway to go into Tibet after the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and will cut travel time from Chengdu to Lhasa from 36 to 12 hours.

During the construction of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, multiple tunnels with complicated geological conditions will be excavated. Considering the construction challenges, the contractor put forward high criteria for product performance, reliability, security and technology during the selection of construction equipment. After much research and strict screening to understand Caterpillar’s advanced production and rigorous quality control processes, they selected the SEM655D wheel loader for their construction project. To meet the urgent timeline, the Caterpillar Qingzhou facility adjusted production and delivered the first order on schedule, while still maintaining strict quality controls. Additional SEM products will be added to support the Sichuan-Tibet Railway project in the future.

The SEM655D wheel loader is well known for its reliability, productivity, energy saving and comfortable operation. It is widely used in heavy-duty applications including ports, aggregate handling, mine site cleaning, steel slag removing and earthmoving. The model has been well received by customers since its introduction.
