Company Introduction

Caterpillar (Qingzhou) Ltd. (CQL), formerly Shandong SEM Machinery Co., Ltd. was founded in 1958 and reorganized as a shareholder company in 2003. In 2008, Caterpillar (Qingzhou ) Ltd. became a full acquisition of Caterpillar and today is an important Caterpillar brand supporting the fast growing demands from China and worldwide. Caterpillar (Qingzhou ) Ltd. is located in Qingzhou City, eastern Shandong province, which is easily accessible by major highways. 

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar, CQL produces both SEM and Cat® products. SEM is one of the key product brands of Caterpillar and its product portfolio includes wheel loaders, soil compactors, motor graders and track type tractor. To meet the increasing demands of global customers, Caterpillar has increased the investment and made expansion at CQL facility since 2009.  In Qingdao, Caterpillar set up a world-class research and development center with experienced engineers from Caterpillar global R&D networks to continuously develop innovative products to meet the requirements of customers from all over the world.

In China, SEM machines are sold through a network of over 60 SEM dealers, owned and operated by local entrepreneurs. In markets outside of China, the products are sold exclusively through Caterpillar dealerships with dedicated SEM channels, covering more than 90 countries. Key export markets for SEM machines include Asia Pacific, Latin America, CIS, and Africa and Middle East.


Brand Introduction

Shandong Engineering Machinery Co. Ltd. manufactured SEM branded wheel loaders in China for more than 60 years and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar in 2008. In 2013, the Shandong Engineering Machinery Co. Ltd. transitioned to Caterpillar (Qingzhou) Ltd. and continues to produce SEM branded products.

As an important strategic brand of Caterpillar, SEM has its own brand proposition, distribution channels, marketing strategy and product support. The SEM brand of wheel loaders, soil compactors, motor graders and track-type tractors are targeted to meet customers’ needs in China and overseas markets. SEM products meet or exceed regional industry requirements for quality and reliability.
